I was blessed to visit Zada Jane's during a visit to Charlotte for an initial meet-up with my realtor. Luckily, Zada was just located about 5 mins from where I was staying in the Plaza Midwood area. We sat in their outside seating and let the heat burn our arms while people watching I call it LOL. After about 5 mins, a gentleman came out and took our order. While we waited we were given some ice cold water to quench our thirst. Luckily, it didn't take long for our meals to come out. There was a lot to choose from but I ended up ordering the "Blazing Saddles", which consisted of an perfectly made omelet filled with chicken, black beans, pepper jack & jalapenos (watch out for the heat!) topped with salsa and sour cream. The sides consisted of toast & herb roasted potatoes. This was by far one of the best brunch meals I've ever had & can't wait to come back!
So if you ever have Charlotte on your list of travels be sure to bookmark this place & enjoy the view ! -

My boyfriend and I were out of town due to Hurricane Dorian. We stopped in Charlotte on our way back to Charleston from Gatlinburg. I have friends who live in Charlotte who let us stay with them for the weekend. They took us to this restaurant for brunch on Saturday.
I ordered the biscuits and sausage gravy. I also ordered a fruit cup and extra crispy bacon. Everything was sold separately, seemed like. As always at brunch time, I ordered coffee. The refillable kind. Which always seems to be regular ole coffee.
The restaurant had a lot of art work for sale on the walls. The art work looked pretty cool and was actually reasonably priced. It was art I would buy for a price I can afford. That part was cool.
The food tasted pretty good. The sausage was a little spicy. The looks of the biscuits and sausage gravy almost scared me off with the huge puddle of grease floating at the top. I ate it though, and later regretted that. I felt sick to my stomach for most of the rest of the day. Also, my bacon came out rubbery. Therefore, I did not eat it. I asked for extra crispy bacon...
The service was decent. I liked the art work there. If grease bothers you, I recommend getting the biscuits and gravy minus the sausage. My friend got that and hers looked way less greasy than mine did. -

Sigh. So this is my review after visiting twice.
Midwood Plaza
Very chill, welcoming and eclectic vibe
Great pricing on food and drinks
customer service 3 / 5
DO - order specialty coffee or take advantage of the coffee carafes while you wait. If you're flexible with where you sit, DO opt for first available. Do not make your own meal, they truly thrive in their dishes.
My thoughts / Review-
My first visit was on Mother's Day weekend and it was busy as expected. Our server was great considering the hustle and bustle of a busy day. I appreciated that he made an effort in asking my daughter for her order (she's 4) and really loves being included at restaurants! So, thank you!
I ordered the Booker T's Eastside Hasher with soysage, my daughter ordered the pancakes and eggs and my husband built his own omelette. The food was great! I would absolutely order my dish again.
My second visit was during PRIDE Charlotte and it was busy! We opted to do First Available as the wait was rather long. We were seated outside on the patio and as much as I wanted to enjoy that experience, it was too hot and the area doesn't get a good breeze. Couple that with a server who seemed aloof and took forever to get our order, bring silverware, etc. On top of that we all made our own orders and I'll never do that again. The grits were too salty, pancakes were gummy (possibly undercooked) and the soysage was bland. -

I really wanted to love ZJ's. It's cute, it's in the neighborhood, I have had it once before (didn't love it then either) but wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt. My boyfriend and I have the day off and decided to pop over to Zada Jane's for Friday breakfast around 11. We walked in to find a fairly substantial line, and were told the wait would be about an hour as they were understaffed. Totally understandable - it's the day after a holiday and people call in.. but there were 5+ tables with no one there that just hadn't been cleared. We waited. And waited. The 4 parties ahead of us got tired of waiting for these very tables and dropped off one by one. 30 minutes later, there were even more deserted tables with no acknowledgement by the slow moving staff. We asked for the open seats at the bar, expecting somewhat faster service, but were told those were treated like a table as well. Of the very few people remaining seated in the restaurant at tables, they still had not received their food and were looking around annoyed.
After so long waiting, I felt invested, but decided it was better to cut our losses and venture elsewhere as ZJ clearly was not looking to make any money today. -

My home away from home. Best omelettes in Plaza Midwood. Yummy shrimp and grits. And the servers are like family to me. Love my Zada Jane's
